In the last months of the First World War John and Paul Nash were appointed official war artists and began work on a series of large paintings which were to form the basis of a proposed war memorial. The work was carried out in a studio they set up on a farm in Chalfont St Peter.

Decorative arts historian Graham Twemlow’s illustrated talk will celebrate the work of the Nash brothers, focusing on their association with the Chilterns. Their childhood, in the early decades of the 20th century, was spent in Iver Heath where the Buckinghamshire countryside was to have a profound effect on their work throughout their lives.

The talk will also give prominence to the major contribution they made to the applied arts, exploring examples of their woodcuts, textiles, illustrations and poster designs.
